90s Grunge
For our costumes we are aiming for an urban 90s grunge look, we got out inspiration from the 1975 music video "Robbers". We think this fits in well with the song because it has a real old school vibe which is the look we are going for with our coursework piece.
Music Videos
Rihanna - 'We found love"
This video inspired our coursework through the way the relationship between Rihanna and her love interests relationship. It was carefree and rebelious with a dark undertone which made us want to base our music video on an abusive relationship. I love the range of camera shots ans lighting techniques used as it higlights the youthful and chaotic lifestyle which the two lover have.

We were inspired from this scene where Rihanna is about to drown herslef, We believe that it is a great shot to illustrate the females vulnerabilty and the lengths she goes to to get out of their relationship; sadness is captured perfectly as she comes across as melancholy.

I think that the establishing shot is a simple yet elegant tracking shot due to the location it is filmed. I loved the idea of walking on an empty street having no idea where they are going but not caring because they are together and that is all that matters. This influenced the love story focus of our video.

Something that is very important is the chemistry between the love interests. In this music video their relationship was intense and passionate and that is something we really want to come across in our coursework, which is why I came up with the idea of screen-testing our actors to see who is the perfect fit.

Tracking shots are very important for us because it is good to have a constant sense of continuity. As our idea is simplistic we need our tracking and panning shots to give of the effect that this relationship is constantly moving in order for our audiences to not get bored.

We decided that our piece will have no performance element in it which means editing has to be strong and camera shots need to be varied. I like that in the 1975 music video, their shots move really quickly and are almost disorientating because this couples lifestyle is really dangerous and fast paced.

We want intense close up shots so that the audience can empathise with our characters. It is also important so we realise whose story it is that we are telling.

Location wise we are planning to film in various different places in order to keep our shots more interesting. In this music video their locations were varied which is what inspired us to want to do the same.

We loved the idea of seeing the couples silhouettes rather than them because its very beautiful to look at and allows you to try and figure out what is going on yourself.
A2 Coursework Inspiration
Lykke li - "I will follow" LADY GAGA - "APPLAUSE"

COLDPLAY - "CHARLIE BROWN"
We are planning to subvert stereotype by not using the performance element in a typical indie music video, instead we are going to keep it completely narrative based to focus on the depth of the story.
OPENING - For our coursework piece we are planning on using aerial test shots which gradually zoom into the location of where our female lead is based which is in a council estate.
We really like the idea of using strobes and bright lights in order to emphasise the young and urban atmosphere we want to evoke.
We will use beauty shots and close ups to emphasise the beauty but also the abuse both the female and male protagonist cause to one another.

We came up with the idea of our character drowning at the end but since then we have changed this idea. The reason we thought of this in the first place is because the shot is very interesting and pure and thats why we thought drowning would work well at first.
If we did decide to use the drowning scene, we liked the idea of showing ink submerged in water because it is very beautiful and unique.
I really want our shots to be crisp and clear which is why I am going to focus heavily on lighting and editing, our concept is quite basic but our editing is what will make it stand out.
I was really taken by the idea of having overlapping shots in order to convey subliminal messages because it shocks the viewer and makes them think about what the message is that you are trying to say.
The idea of having split scenes in small boxes is very cool and fun, it also makes our editing look a lot more thought about and individual.
